Murphy, Golborne Hub

Case Study
Murphy, Golborne Hub
Infrastructure visualisation at operational scale
“I never felt better armed going into an approval meeting.”
Mike Carpenter, Managing Director of Murphy
Emperor Vision was commissioned to create a comprehensive suite of architectural visualisations for Murphy’s new Golborne Hub, a landmark infrastructure and operational campus designed to support the company’s continued growth over the next 50 years.
Located west of Manchester on a highly sensitive green belt site, the development consolidates Murphy’s existing regional offices and depot operations into a purpose-built, future-focused hub combining operational infrastructure, workplace environments, rail training facilities and extensive public realm landscaping.
The brief
Our role was to translate the technical complexity and long-term ambition of the development into a clear, compelling visual narrative, one capable of informing stakeholders, supporting leadership approval, assisting planning communication and presenting Murphy’s future vision with confidence.
The visualisations needed to communicate far more than architecture alone. They had to show operational logistics, heavy plant infrastructure, rail testing facilities, workshop activity, staff circulation, landscape integration, biodiversity strategies and long-term functionality at masterplan scale.
The challenge
This was not a simple commercial CGI project. The site required the accurate modelling and coordination of complex infrastructure environments, from plant yard logistics and vehicle movements to rail testing infrastructure, workshop access, parking, public realm and surrounding green space.
The challenge was to make every operational detail feel technically believable while still creating imagery that felt aspirational, polished and commercially persuasive.
Operational accuracy
The exterior visualisations required extensive environmental modelling and asset coordination to ensure that machinery placement, vehicle flow, yard logistics and circulation patterns all felt authentic and functionally credible.
At this scale, small inaccuracies can quickly undermine the believability of a scene. Every piece of heavy plant, every access route, every hardstanding area and every landscape transition had to work together as part of a coherent operational campus.
A future-focused workplace
Internally, the visualisations focused on collaboration, wellbeing and contemporary workplace experience. Large atrium spaces, biophilic design features, hospitality-inspired breakout areas and exposed industrial detailing helped position the headquarters as a modern, people-focused environment.
The resulting imagery reinforced Murphy’s wider ambitions around sustainability, workplace culture, regional investment and future-proofing the business for the next generation.
Supporting approval, confidence and commercial value
The visualisation package became an important communication tool for Murphy, helping leadership and stakeholders understand the scale, value and long-term purpose of the development before completion.
The scheme delivers significant social and commercial value, including more than 215 new jobs, £450k+ annual local economic spend, enhanced training infrastructure, biodiversity improvements, public green space and operational consolidation across Murphy’s northwest presence.
Interactive 3D presentation
Alongside the still imagery package, Emperor Vision also developed an interactive 3D presentation environment, enabling Murphy stakeholders to explore the scheme dynamically and understand the spatial relationships across the site in greater detail. The result
The Golborne Hub represents far more than a new operational facility. It is a long-term investment in infrastructure, training, sustainability and regional growth, and a clear example of how high-end architectural visualisation can support stakeholder confidence, planning communication and strategic business approvals long before construction is complete.
